Dog Planet: AKA Alaska

Alaska is about the most dog-friendly, dog-nutty, doggone dog-obsessed state. Only Greenland campares to Alaska in its obsession with dogs. Nearly everyone in Alaska has a dog, or two, or 20. Mushing is a legitimate and very serious pasttime here, carrying on an ancient tradition of Alaska's Native peoples. The annual Iditarod dog race each March is an internationally followed sporting event that draws thousands of visitors to the state and the attention of the world. For visitors and locals alike, it is a rare site to behold these magnificent four-legged athletes, who will pull sleds more than 1,000 miles through the bush of wintery Alaska. (I'm sorry, if you haven't heard of this race, can you please tell me what monastery you've been living in for the last 20 years.) There are also junior mushing races and skijoring races aplenty, which are equally fun to watch. Below you will find a few pictures of some.
