At Buchenwald concentration camp, nearly 57,000 persons were murdered. When Supreme Allied War Commander Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower visited the camp five days after its April 11, 1945, liberation, he said: "I never dreamed that such cruelty, bestiality, and savagery could really exist in this world. It was horrible!" |
