The largest Nazi camp in Denmark, Frøslevlejren, in Padborg, by the border with Germany, held up to 12,000 Danes. Most of those interned were political prisoners, some of whom were then sent to camps in Germany, breaking promises German officials made to the Danish-occupied government that Danes would be kept on Danish soil. Like all other camps, the camps sits next to a rail line, which made transports easier. |
