At the Mauthausen camp quarry, prisoners doing slave labor at the nearby "Wiener Graben" quarry had to carry heavy slabs of granite up the "stairs of death" (now safe for visitors). For fun, SS guards would push over the front row of prisoners. Because the prisoners were packed as tight as sardines, that would trigger a lethal chain reaction as many collapsed.
