At the Mauthausen camp in Austria, where nearly 53,000 persons were murdered, the Nazis used slave labor to build the massive granite complex on a hill. The place resembles a medieval fortress and remains among the best if not the best preserved concentration camp in all of Europe, simply because it was built to last.
