At the Stutthof concentration camp about one hour from Gdansk, Poland, Polish political prisoners were immediately brought here the second day after the Nazi attack on the "Free City of Danzig [Gdansk]" in September 1939. The camp claimed 65,000 lives, and was the last liberated on Sept. 9, 1945 -- a day after the Nazis' surrender to Allied and Soviet forces.
