Salo Wasserman and Birgit Krasnick Fishermann of Copenhagen, Denmark, have two different tales from the Danish Jewish experience during World War II. Wasserman escaped to Sweden during the boatlifts of nearly 7,000 Danish Jews in October 1943, though his father drowned in a small craft. That same month, the then 5-year-old Fishermann was imprisoned with her family at Terezín (Theresienstadt) in the Czech Republic with other Danish Jews. She was one of just 97 child survivors of nearly 15,000 children held at the ghetto-camp complex.
