After World War II, so-called "volksdeutsch," or ethnic Germans in eastern Europe, were forcibly moved to Germany. Martin, left, and Roy are grandsons of these resettled Germans. Both their grandparents were conscripted into the German armed forces during the war, and both men said their grandfathers said little if nothing about their experiences. Both men, from Weimar, are concerned about the continued strong presence of neo-Nazi skinheads in many towns in the old East Germany. They proudly consider themselves "East Germans," and not "West Germans."
