I am finishing my MPH degree at the University of Washington, School of Public Health, in its Community-Oriented Public Health Practice program, or COPHP. I am excited about putting my new job skills to practice when I re-enter the job market full-time in the summer of 2012. When I am not working on my public health studies, I often can be found running the trails of a few parks in soggy Seattle, including my favorite one of all, Discovery Park. Man, I love this place. Prior to my return to the Pacific Northwest in August 2010, I called Anchorage, Alaska, my home for six years. I left a lot of incredible memories and great friends behind in the Great Land, which I have honored with a short video. But, many great journeys lie ahead. Alaska again? A trans-African public health expedition? As my favorite explorer and traveller, the brilliant Sir Richard Francis Burton, wrote in his journal as he began his expedition to the headwaters of the Nile: "Of the gladdest moments in human life, methinks, is the departure upon a distant journey into unknown lands. Shaking off with one might effort the fetters of habit, the leaden weight of routine, the cloak of many cares and the slavery of home, one feels once more happy. The blood flows with the fast circulation of childhood. ... A journey, in fact, appeals to imagination, to memory, to hope--the three sister graces of our moral being." Just for fun, and because it's winter, I want to share a video I did of one of my more memorable experiences in Alaska. My friend took me out mushing on Christmas Day in 2009. Missing those Alaska dogs. |
