St. John's Monastery stands atop the Greek island of Patmos in the Aegean. The structure was built like a fortress and served as one for the Greek Orthodox monks who safeguarded the facility and its holy relics from would-be attackers. The island is famous for being the home of St. John, who wrote his prophecy-rich Book of Revelations while residing on the island at the end of the first century AD, according to some scholars.
