I first moved to Washington state in 1987, settling in Seattle to begin my life after college. This was before Amazon was even a company and when Microsoft was just assuming dominance in the software market from its suburban headquarters in Redmond. Real-estate was affordable and the multiple tech bubbles had not launched and burst. I left and returned three different times, finally leaving for good in 2014, when the city had become unaffordable to most residents. I was one who could no longer afford to rent there.

During my last stay, from 2010 through 2014, I traveled widely throughout the state. During these years, I photographed the state’s great diversity: ecological, topographic, ethnic, economic, and more. The most recent pictures were added in April 2015 of Native American petroglyphs and pictographs at Columbia Hills State Park. I still have great memories of my times in Seattle, in the state’s amazing wild areas and mountains, and with my many great friends I made there over the decades.
